Preventing Risks, Optimizing Outcomes

Spine surgery is serious business, and requires meticulous preparation and planning to avoid any potential barriers to a full recovery. Healthcare experts agree that patients have better results when:

  • Potential pitfalls are foreseen and eliminated
  • There is quick resolution to any developing logistical issue
  • An advocate oversees care
  • Close compliance with medication, diet and exercise is maintained

That’s why most patients undergoing spine surgery, particularly those with special needs, are placed in our Patient Advocate Program*. From complete coordination of care and creation of pre- and post-surgical care plans, to preventive medicine counseling and risk factor reduction, patients and their immediate caregivers are actively involved in detailed, careful planning for their recovery process.

From the day you enter the program, everything we do is geared towards optimizing your chances of a successful outcome. From diet and nutrition planning to ensure you’re in the best shape possible before surgery, to a home evaluation to make sure that your environment is safe and conducive to a smooth recovery after surgery, to helping you transition back to a normal, reduced-pain lifestyle and the activities that accompany it, we work alongside you every step of your journey until you are back on your feet and enjoying life again.

Our Patient Advocate Program includes:

Pre-Surgical Care refers to care given before surgery when physical and psychological preparations are made for the operation, according to the individual needs of the patient. The Preoperative period runs from the time the patient is admitted to the hospital or surgicenter to the time that the surgery begins.  

Our Pre-Surgical Care includes:

  • Coordination of schedules and services
  • Situational health risk assessment
  • Pre-surgery home visit and environmental risk assessment
  • Personal goal setting
  • Preventive medicine counseling and health coaching
  • The Cantor Diet and Nutrition Program
  • Post-surgical planning with family members

In-Patient Care refers to medical treatment that is provided in a hospital or other facility, and requires at least one overnight stay by the patient.

Our In-Patient Care includes:

  • Fully customized in-patient advocacy program
  • Coordination of special needs and specific requests
  • Post-op transition planning
  • Establishing Local Resources for Comfort & Convenience

Post-Surgical Care is the care you receive after a surgical procedure. The type of postoperative care you need depends on the type of surgery you have, as well as your health history. It often includes pain management and wound care. Postoperative care begins immediately after surgery.

Our Post-Surgical Care includes:

  • Implementing pain management after surgery
  • Post-operative health and recovery assessment
  • Post-operative diet and exercise plan
  • Physical therapy consultation and health coaching
  • Coordination and vetting of home health and rehabilitation services

Our Behind-the-Scenes services include:

  • One-to-one review of insurance coverage and benefits to maximize available resources
  • Access to our network of highly qualified consulting physicians and therapists, including cardiologists, neurologists, pain management specialists, primary care physicians, and physical and occupational therapists
  • Coordination of all appointments with consulting physicians, other diagnostic services, home health agencies and other facilities
  • Research and vetting of local resources for your convalescence
  • Coordination of family resources, including daily updates and information sharing
  • Enhanced availability to patient and family members for problem-solving and answering questions
